Ruth talks about her mother…
…lousy housekeeper, not a good cook or an especially good mother.
when my mom was 5, she would answer the phone, ”How often are the pains coming?” Her parents wouldn’t let her become a doctor.
Her mother eventually opened a bookstore in Cleveland, in which she corresponded with well-known authors.
Mom wasn’t actually maternal, kids bored her. By the time mom married, cooking and cleaning didn’t take that long.
It was a time when there was a world of smart, educated women, who were idle. these women were very hard on their families.
The ocassion of what would have been my 100th’s birthday. I wish my mother could have been here.
P.S. Ruth is wearing a great all-black ensemble…
